2000!
1 january 2000

hi everyone,

gelukig nieuw jaar! here we are in the next millenium still hearing fireworks. we've never experienced such a scene with the firecrackers starting at about 5 in the afternoon and not slowing down til about 2 in the morning. we opted to stay in and drink wine and watch cnn so we got a look at what was going on around the world. not the most exciting nye but since i hate crowds and am terrified of loud sudden noises, there weren't many options. oh well.

had a very nice trip to brugge the other day; about 3 and a half hours by train. the city is very old and beautiful despite the fact that the canals stink! amsterdam smells a lot better. however, you've never really had a true waffle until you've had one in belgium. brought back a few chocolates as well!

gary returns to work on mon and may have to go to london sometime soon. i must go with him as i've never been there. also we are planning a trip to paris in the near future, also only a few hours by train. we'll have to fly to london if we go. i will probably start taking class this week and have looked into a studio that has lots of modern and ballet. feeling like i really need to dance. my other goal is to start taking dutch classes. everyone speaks perfect english here but it would be neat to learn dutch; sounds like quite a challenge for me.

yesterday we saw the dutch national ballet perform "toverfluit", the magic flute. it was wonderful!! the theater is exquisite and i could get very used to going there on a regualar basis. the stage is enormous, sigh, and the dancing and the entire production was a real joy. tons of dance going on here; it will be hard to see everything but i will certainly try.

looks like the sun might be coming out, which is quite rare so i will sign off.

love, deb
